The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council (OMVIC) is Ontario’s regulator of motor
vehicle dealers and salespersons. We are a not-for-profit corporation that administers and
enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002 (MVDA), the consumer protection statute governing
vehicle sales in the province, accountable to the Minister of Public and Business Service
Delivery and Procurement and the government. We also apply other consumer protection
legislation such as certain provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 when it is
applicable to uphold the rights of consumers who purchase motor vehicles in Ontario.
Conducting business as a motor vehicle dealer or salesperson in Ontario requires OMVIC registration.
Our mandate is to ensure that the more than 8,000 motor vehicle dealers and approximately 30,000 registered salespersons in Ontario treat consumers with honesty, integrity and fairness.
